Empowering Young Minds Through Creative Technology

We’re thrilled to announce that Kai Coders in collaboration with Lazarus Educational Services, has been awarded the Society for Science STEM Action Grant! This grant will bolster our commitment to providing tech-focused STEAM education to Wilmington’s East Side and beyond, enabling us to expand our reach and positively impact even more young minds.

Check out this short video of the kids showcasing their community kindness projects! 💬💖 https://youtu.be/dW3Ryaj89WI?si=wYuDuecQSPT62uKL

In our CodeJam program, we empowered kids to express their creativity in unique ways—and they never cease to amaze us! Some students designed small prototype robots equipped with sensors that played music, allowing users to tap different sensors and create rhythms. Others chose to tell jokes, but most shared words of kindness and inspiration through their robotic creations.

The culmination of this project took place at the Soul of the City block party, where we unveiled a 6-foot-tall robot adorned with sensors displaying messages from students across our programs—CodeJam, William Hicks Community Center, and Cab Calloway’s 'Computer Guts & Robot Brains' summer camp.

A heartwarming moment occurred when a couple of our former Warner Elementary coding students spotted us at the event. Their excitement was infectious as they joined in, adding their own voices and words of kindness to our display! This beautiful blend of messages from Wilmington and surrounding communities spread positivity to everyone in attendance.

This remarkable project was made possible through a collaboration with local artist and entrepreneur David Sanchez, the City of Wilmington Parks & Rec, and Cab Calloway School of the Arts. The final showcase was a true celebration of partnerships, creativity, and community.🥰
